Baby stolen from Skardu hospital recovered, reunited with parents

Infant Mohsin Raza who was stolen from DHQ Hospital Skardu has been recovered from Ghanche

SKARDU, July 21: A baby who was stolen from the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital here, 10 days ago has been recovered, police sources told The High Asia Herald on Friday.
SSP Skardu Raja Mirza Hassan said the 45 days Mohsin Raza had been recovered from Shahzada, a resident of Chilas, and father of a seven years old and a five years old daughters. He runs a hotel at Partok, Ghanche, the officer said.
According to the initial investigation, Shahzada’s wife Rozeena had stolen the baby from the DHQ hospital. Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman had taken serious notice of the incident as it was the first of its kind in the history of the GB.
The CM had directed the IG Police and DIG Baltistan Region to recover the stolen baby and submit a report within a week.
Police had registered a FIR in the women police station Skardu and launched a search operation.
The SSP said a woman from Dassu area of Shigar District had brought the child to the hospital for polio immunisation.
He said a veiled woman who was already at the hospital, asked the mother to hand over the baby to her for a while.
The infant’s mother, after turning over the child to the woman, went into another room of the hospital, but when she returned the woman with the baby had vanished.
The hospital staff informed the women police station who launched a search operation to trace the baby.
The SHO, Gulshan, said the CCTV cameras of the hospital were not functioning.
The police after hectic efforts and on a tip off raided the house of Shehzad at Partok and recovered the baby. The police showed the baby’s photograph to his parents who identified him.
The suspects had even did not change the clothes and nipple of the baby that made it easier for the police to identify him.
The police detained Shahzada and his wife and transferred them to Skardu for further probe.
