Chitral man dies after alleged assault by police official

CHITRAL: A labourer was allegedly beat and tortured to death by local police in Taral area of Chitral, local people informed.

According to local people, the deceased, resident of Barayar Khoon area had went to Drosh in search of labour work, however, police constable Zia-ur-Rehman beat and tortured him to death for not processing CNIC. Later, police buried the body in a local graveyard.

Hospital sources revealed that unidentified man was died of torture. Political and civil society members of Chitral demanded action against the police personnel involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, police said that investigation into the incident was underway, however, FIR was not registered as yet.

According to another sources, the man had been asked for identification by a local police officer upon entering the mosque in question; however, the victim ignored the officer as he was getting late for prayers. Upon his return from the mosque, an altercation took place between the victim and the officer over identification documents. The officer then allegedly struck the man on his face, which caused the victim’s nose to bleed. He was rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

Police sources claim that the victim did not belong to the area and had been buried in the local graveyard since no one claimed the deceased’s body.

They claimed that they were investigating the matter, but a first information report had not been registered by the time this report was filed.
