Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman has taken serious notice of abduction of a child from Skardu Hospital. While expressing his sympathy with the affected family, he directed IG Police and DIG Baltistan Region to recover the abducted child and submit a report regarding the case.

A one-and-half-month-old child was allegedly abducted from the district headquarters hospital, Skardu, on Tuesday. Police registered FIR in the women police station Skardu and started search to trace the child and the captors.

Police said a woman from Dassu area of Shigar district had brought a child to the hospital for polio immunisation. They said a veiled woman already in the hospital asked for the child to be handed over to her for a while.

The child’s mother, after turning over the child to the woman, went into another room of the hospital, but when she returned the woman with the child was missing.

After the mother started screaming, the hospital staff informed the police. Women police station SHO Gulshan told mediapersons a search operation was underway to trace the missing child.

The SHO said the CCTV cameras installed in DHQ hospital Skardu were not functioning.
