GILGIT: Local authorities have banned eight firebrand clerics from entering Gilgit for two months effective from September 11.
According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Gilgit, Capt (retd) Samiullah Farooq on Sept 11, five clerics from Punjab, one from Sindh and two from Skardu have been conveyed that their presence in the capital metropolis “may jeopardise law and order”. The clerics who have been banned from entering to the region are: Moulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi, head of Ahe Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), Punjab; Moulana Aurangzeb Farooqi (ASWJ), Sindh; Allam Ilyas Ghumman, Muttahida Deeni Mahaz (MDMP), Punjab; Moulana Azam Maviya (ASWJ) Punjab; Allama Raja Nasir Abbas head of Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM), Allama Sajid Naqvi head of Islami Tehrik Pakistan (ITP) Punjab; Sheikh Ejaz Baltistani (ITP) Skardu and Allama Arif Wahidi (ITP), Skardu. Therefore their entry to or stay in Gilgit has been banned under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) from September 11 to November 11, during Muharram, the notification reads.-
