SKARDU (Baltistan), Aug 1: Five people are missing and two injured as a jeep has fallen into a river, police told The High Asia Herald.
According to local people and police, the jeep with seven passengers on board was coming to Skardu from Askoli, when it fell into the Shigar River near Mushan Village approximately 90km from here on Tuesday morning.
Two of the passengers were able to jump out of the vehicle while the waves of the river swept the jeep away.
The local people shifted the two injured to Skardu District Headquarters Hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable.
Search is on for the five missing persons who are reported to be employees of Snow Leopard Foundation, a non-government organisation, working on conservation of the endangered animal.
Muhammad Zubair and Muhammad Shakeel, students at the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad had gone to Baltistan to do their research work with the Baltistan CopConservationd Development Foundation. Shakeel is injured and Zubair is missing.
The other persons, identified as Ali Khan, Muhammad Khan, Sharif and Ashraf are missing while Muhammad Younus, a resident of Skardu is injured.
