In a world where rigid expectations and stereotypes so often distort the definition of masculinity, Ahmed Khan Johar, a photojournalist, embodied a gentler, wiser and deeply humane alternative. His sudden passing yesterday (November 19, 2025) due to a cardiac arrest has left those who knew him in profound shock, disbelief and sorrow.
Just yesterday, as the Women Expo in Skardu opened, Maryam was leading the event with women entrepreneurs from across Gilgit-Baltistan showcasing their work. And, as always, Ahmed was right there with her at every step and watching her shine. He moved quietly through the venue, taking photos, managing small details, encouraging her, and proudly watching her shine. This was the environment he felt most at home helping his wife’s success. He never sought the spotlight. He helped create it for others.
In a society highly patriarchal and religious, where many men still hesitate to accept women’s leadership, Ahmed quietly redefined what true strength looks like. His actions proved that masculinity is not threatened by a woman’s success; it is elevated by supporting it. His presence was soft, steady, humble, yet full of pride for Maryam. That’s why his loss is not only deeply personal for the family, but also emotional for his community.
In the death of Ahmed, we have lost a man who embodied kindness, partnership, and respect, an ally in the struggle for women’s empowerment. We have lost an example that many were just beginning to learn from.
As we mourn the passing of Ahmad, let us honour his legacy by carrying forward the values he lived every day with support, compassion, equality, and love. Let us raise more sons who grow up to be like him; men who stand with their partners, who believe in the power of women, and who understand that love is not about control, but about uplifting each other.
May Allah grant him the highest ranks in Jannah and give strength to Maryam Ainee and the entire family. His life may have been short, but the impact he made quietly, consistently, and beautifully will remain unforgettable. May his legacy continue to inspire others.
