Jafar Shah made PTI GB chapter president
In a major shakeup the ruling party notifies office-bearers of ICT, four provinces, AJK and GB.
Islamabad: Veteran politician of Gilgit-Baltistan Justice (retd) Syed Jafar Shah has been appointed president of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) GB chapter.
The PTI in a major shakeup announced new office-bearers in the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan after completion of the overdue reorganisation of the party.
PTI’s central chief organiser Saifullah Nyazee on Friday issued notifications of new office-bearers of different chapters.
According to the notification, Shah Nasir has been made senior vice-president, Col (retd) Obedullah Beg, vice-president; Amjad Zaidi, vice-president; Fatehullah, general secretary; Taqi Akhundzada, Additional general-secretary; Amina Ansari, deputy general-secretary; Sabir Hussain, deputy general-secretary; Noshad Alam, deputy general-secretary; Ajmal Hussain, finance secretary; Akbar Hussain as Information secretary.
“I have been given the sacred responsibility of being the President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Gilgit-Baltistan. I am thankful to Prime Minister Imran Khan for trusting me with this task,” Mr Shah posted on his Facebook page.
He said he would serve the party and the interests of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
He also congratulated his newly appointed team and hoped to work together with them and all other groups for shaping a brighter future for Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan.
Mr Shah retired as chief judge of the Supreme Appellate Court in 2012. Before joining the judiciary, Shah was president of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) GB chapter. He was also remained member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly. He was instrumental in drafting the Gilgit-Baltistan Governance and Empowerment Order 2009.
However his long association with PPP fell apart after developing differences with the party leadership and joined PTI in September 2016.
