Karachi – The Higher Education Commission (HEC) hosted the transformative “Pakistan Digital Leap” event the other day, unveiling a sweeping digital overhaul set to redefine learning for millions of students across the country.
At the heart of this revolution is TMC for its pivotal role in digitising 25 universities through its innovative platforms — Maktab ERP-SLCS and Al-Fihri Learning Management System (LMS), according to a press release.
The event brought together vice-chancellors, corporate leaders, education experts, and government officials in a bold display of Pakistan’s commitment to building a future-ready academic ecosystem aimed at transforming higher education.
Held under the umbrella of HEC’s flagship Higher Education Development Program (HEDP), in collaboration with the World Bank, the initiative is expected to benefit more than 6 million students across the country.
In a first for Pakistan, HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmad appeared at the event via hologram, embodying the very digital transformation he championed. “We have provided the much-needed technological support to the universities and students of Pakistan,” Dr. Ahmad said. “With these technologies, our students can now compete with top-ranked institutions globally, while universities can reduce costs and operate with greater efficiency.”

The outgoing HEC Chair, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, appeared as a holographic host, the first of its kind in Pakistan’s history, reflecting the innovative spirit driving this transformation.
Speaking at the event, Dr Ahmad said: “We have provided the much-needed technological support to the universities and students. With these technologies, our students can now compete with the top-ranked universities in the world, while universities can lower their costs and enhance efficiency.”
Driving the digital shift
TMC’s technological backbone — Maktab ERP-SLCS for administrative automation and Al-Fihri LMS for digital learning — is enabling universities to operate smarter, faster, and more equitably. The integrated Maktab system streamlines everything from admissions and registrations to exams and student records, while Al-Fihri LMS allows students to access personalized learning anytime, anywhere, on any device.
Abdul Haseeb, CEO and Managing Director of TMC, emphasized the long-term impact of the partnership. “Through this project, we are proud to contribute to a future where quality education is accessible, efficient, and inclusive,” he said. “This collaboration with HEC and the World Bank is a milestone in our mission to modernize Pakistan’s higher education landscape with locally developed, globally competitive solutions.”
These systems are not only cost-efficient, minimising paper use and reducing administrative burdens, but also secure and scalable, backed by HEC’s Astrolabes datacenters and the robust Jidar Network Security framework.

The Al-Fihri LMS is named after Fatima Al-Fihri, the visionary founder of the world’s oldest operational university — a symbolic fusion of historical legacy with future-focused innovation. Designed for inclusivity and lifelong learning, the LMS offers customized study plans, adaptive assessments, and real-time academic support, all tailored to meet the evolving demands of modern education.
The Pakistan Digital Leap is a cornerstone in HEC’s vision for a national digital education ecosystem — encompassing 7,000 km of fiber connectivity, 20,000 Wi-Fi points, and smart classrooms in 96 higher education institutions. With TMC’s solutions at the core, the country is poised to leap into a new era of digital equity, academic excellence, and global competitiveness.
