Women’s Action Forum (WAF) has strongly condemned the horrific and inhumane treatment meted out to Baloch drivers in Chagai by the Frontier Corps.
A statement issued by WAF said it was outraged by horrific videos coming out of Chagai.
“WAF expresses serious concern over indiscriminate and unprovoked firing by paramilitary forces against peaceful and unarmed protestors in Chagai, who were recording their protest against the brutality of security personnel” the statement read.
WAF said the senseless loss of human life caused by the high-handedness and cruelty of the paramilitary forces in Chagai is reflective of a long-standing trend wherein those on the peripheries, whether Baloch or Pashtun, have been systematically dehumanized and treated as lesser beings by the State.
“This policy must come to an end. The Baloch must be recognized as equal citizens of the federation and their genuine concerns, including their long-standing demands for control over their own resources and return of forcibly disappeared persons, must be addressed without further delay,” they demanded.
WAF also called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his government to order an immediate inquiry into the conduct of authorities and ensure that impunity for gross human rights violations in Balochistan.
