Islamabad: Amid an unrelenting surge of cyberattacks targeting critical national and financial sectors, NomadsTech, a private cybersecurity firm, has embarked on a an ambitious plan to shield Pakistan’s digital ecosystem.
With banks, telecom giants, and government institutions reeling from sophisticated breaches and ransomware assaults, Najm Us Saqib, a cybersecurity vizard and founder of NomadsTech, warns that the nation’s booming digital economy—projected to exceed $100 billion by 2030—faces existential risks sans urgent action.
“Pakistan’s digital growth is outpacing its defences,” Saqib stated in an exclusive interview.
Recent reports from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) reveal alarming trends: cybercrime incidents surged by 83% in 2023 alone, costing the economy over $1.8 billion through data leaks, financial fraud, and infrastructure sabotage, he warns.
A major banking breach earlier this year exposed sensitive data of 10 million customers and siphoned Rs2.5 billion, underscoring systemic vulnerabilities.
“We need a paradigm shift—adaptive regulations, cross-sector collaboration, and AI-driven threat detection systems to outsmart cybercriminals.”
Through NomadsTech, Saqib is deploying cutting-edge solutions, including AI-powered firewalls and blockchain-based encryption, to safeguard financial networks, power grids, and e-governance platforms.
The firm recently partnered with Pakistan’s National IT Board to train 5,000 cybersecurity professionals, aiming to close the nation’s critical skills gap.
Saqib also advocates for a unified regional cybersecurity framework, citing threats transcending borders.
As Pakistan accelerates its digitization drive, experts warn that complacency could derail progress. “Cybersecurity isn’t a luxury—it’s the bedrock of our digital future,” Saqib emphasized. With NomadsTech at the helm, Pakistan’s quest to become a global cybersecurity contender is gaining momentum, but the race against ever-evolving threats has only just begun.
As Pakistan’s digital economy grows, Najm Us Saqib’s mission is clear: protect, innovate, and secure the future.
