The Islamabad police have registered a sedition case against National Assembly member Mohsin Dawar, human rights activist Imaan Mazari and several Baloch students for attending a sit-in protest.

The Baloch students were protesting harassment and racial profiling of Baloch students in various higher education institutes across the country.

The students protesting outside National Press Club have reported multiple instances of harassment and a prevalent culture of fear and panic. They also name a certain Major Murtaza, who, as per the students’ accounts, interrogated their colleagues on several occasions.

On Tuesday, police assaulted the peaceful protestors with bamboo sticks and manhandle lawyer and activist Iman Mazari after she came forward to defend the students from police aggression and recover the student’s snatched cellphones from the custody of the police.

As per media reports, the Islamabad police have said that a case of sedition was registered against Mazari, National Democratic Movement leader MNA Mohsin Dawar, and hundreds of Baloch students for ‘rebellion, rioting, and raising of anti-state slogans.’

The First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the suspects at the Kohsar Police Station in Islamabad, local media reported.
