Five of a family go missing as jeep falls into Gilgit river

A woman and a minor girl were rescued but the girl died while being shifted to a hospital

Gilgit: Five members of a family are feared drowned following a jeep they were travelling met an accident and fell into a river on the outskirts of Gilgit late Saturday evening, sources in the Rescue 1122 told The High Asia Herald.
According to eyewitnesses, the Potohar jeep was on way from Sher Qila, Ghizer District, to Gilgit when it crashed at Henzal, Harpon, about 10km west of the city around 7:30pm and fell into the river.
Amir Ali’s elder brother told The High Asia Herald reporter that his younger brother, a resident of Hussainabad, Hunza, along with his wife, sister-in-law Afsheen and four children were on way to Gilgit on Eid holidays when the accident occurred.

Locals and Rescue 1122 volunteers rushed to the scene and began the rescue operation. But the operation could not be continued due to darkness.

The rescuers, however, rescued a woman and a girl. They were injured but the girl died before reaching the hospital.
The injured woman has been shifted to Aga Khan Health Center where her condition is stated to be out of danger. The body of the girl has been shifted to City Hospital Gilgit.
Rescue 1122 crews arrived late, a local volunteer claimed. The woman and girl were pulled out of the river by local volunteers.
Driving on the Gilgit-Ghizer Road is pretty dangerous and risky as it is narrow and in a dilapidated condition, especially at night.

Precious lives are lost every year in accidents on this road.
