Lawyers intensify efforts for consensus on GB’s status

As the legal battle for the constitutional rights of Gilgit-Baltistan enter a crucial stage, lawyers have also intensified their consultation process with all stakeholders eliciting their views on the issue.

The bar members will meet Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman who is expected to arrive in the federal capital on Saturday to join the lawyers and discuss constitutional as well as a constitutional petition filed by the Bar Council against the GB Order 2018 in the Supreme Court.

The Bar team met with regional law minister Raja Aurangzeb Khan and senior advocate Amjad Hussain in Islamabad on Friday and discussed the line of action pertaining to the petition.

Earlier a team of GB Bar Council, led by its Vice-Chairman Javed Ahmed and senior member Javed Iqbal met Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon to apprise him of the latest development on the issue.

The SC has formed a five-judge larger bench to hear the main petition along with other identical petitions on day-to-day basis.
