AWP vows to emerge as a genuine alternative force

By News Desk

The Awami Workers’ Party (AWP) is committed to becoming a genuine alternative force by uniting all Left-wing, progressive, secular and nationalist parties and groups and launching a country-wide struggle for bringing about change in the existing decadent system and building a socialist society.

This was the gist of the speeches made by Federal President Yousuf Mustikhan, General Secretary Dr Bakhshal Thalho, Deputy Secretary Dr Aasim Sajjad Akhtar, Organising secretary Javed Akhtar and other leaders at a workers’ meeting in Mardan.

The federal leadership was on a week-long visit to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The visit has been organised by the Awami Workers’ Party, Pakhtunkhwa.

In addition to AWP-KP provincial president Akhundzada Haider Zaman, central committee members Rehana Shakeel, Kifayatullah, Qazi Hakeem, Fazal Mulla and a large number of workers and local party office-bearers spoke on the occasion.

In their speeches, the AWP leaders expressed concern over the current political and economic crises in Pakistan.

They criticized the recent anti-people budget presented under the dictation and policy of the global imperialist financial institutions.

The recent increase in POL and electricity has pushed inflation to new highs in the history of this country and making the living for the poor, working and lower-middle classes harder.

They said almost all the political parties in the government and the opposition PTI were on the same boat and pawns of the military establishment, global imperialism and its financial institutions, the IMF.

The ruling elite is least concerned about the miseries of the lower class and implementing the IMF prescriptions by increasing the prices of electricity and petrol has caused a price spiral, rendering millions jobless.

They said that the party realizes its historic responsibility to take lead and bring the people out of the quagmire of despair.

They urged the party leaders and workers to work hard to make AWP a third alternative force up to the next general election and present a comprehensive program of real change and spread it among the wider masses, bring together the progressive, secular and democratic forces on a single platform and intensify the struggle for the overthrow of this rotten system and the formation of a socialist society.

They also discussed organizational matters and welcomed new members to the fold of the party.

The party leaders on Saturday visited Buner and addressed a large protest rally at Swari Chowk, organised by the local party against price-hike, prolonged load-shedding and rampant corruption.

President Engineer Haider Zaman, Awami Workers Party Buner President Gul Rehman FC member Maizullah Khan and others addressed the protest rally.

They also visited Buner District Bar Association and addressed the BDBA members and office-bearers.

They will visit Swat and other districts on Sunday and address public rallies and attend party school.
